Peggy Fleming was born in San Jose, California, United States, to newspaper journalists and former U.S. marine Albert Fleming and Doris Elizabeth Fleming.

She is the second oldest of four sisters. The former A.B.C. commentator has an older sister named Janice Fleming and two younger sisters named Maxine and Kathy Fleming.
